The National reports that a new high school in Kagua-Erave district has received K3 million from the Southern Highlands provincial government last Tuesday to build classrooms, dormitories and teachers houses.
Another K1.5 million has been set aside for upgrading a feeder road to connect the 23,000 people of the area to the new school.
The new high school will have its first Grade 9 enrolment next year as there are eight primary schools from the Kuare local level government (LLG) area.
Provincial education adviser Joel Raitano said this was the biggest impact project for the year under the revised budget given to the people of Kagua-Erave.
He said the new high school would replace the Kuare Primary School, which would be moved to a new location as the 17 councillors from the LLG had vowed to work together.
Raitano said under Governor William Powi’s administration, priority would be given to all schools in the province.
He said in the past, provincial governments gave priority to schools in urban centres.
“But today, this is not the case, priority will be given to schools in the rural areas,” he said.
He urged the 17 councillors, community leaders and students to work together, saying other projects would soon be delivered if they cooperate.
“Landowners must not complain but appreciate the service as you have received K3 million for the high school and K1.5 million for the road upgrading,” he said.
The contract for the construction of the building was awarded to Javeb Builders Ltd, a company-based in Western Highlands. The National
