The dreams of Koares to get a Christian Mission run school came to reality when Catholics Bishop of Mendi and the Southern Highlands Provincial Education Advisor, Mr. Joel Reke Raitano declared Mapeanda primary school in front of a huge enthusiastic crowd . Large people turned up with traditional singsing and huge pig killing to celebrate the occasion.
Mr. Raitano while declaring the school thank the Catholic Mission for the role it has taken to establish the school. He appealed to the local community to take responsibility to look after the school. He particularly thank Fr. Bogdan and his committee to make the school a reality.
Meanwhile, the local priest got into traditional attire and celebrated the occassion he had dreamed for. Despite the hot sun and tough surface, the priest led hundreds of singers onto the paddock.
